On the 12 July 2022, Kekeli News team decided to visit two markets in the Volta region to find out from the market women about the price of food commodities or items.
The market women express their opinions on how the prices of everything keeps going up every day. Madam Diana 48yrs, who sells tomatoes,pepper,cucumber and some other stuffs complain bitterly to the news team that she used to buy a full sack of pepper at 110ghs but now she’s buying it at 350ghs which is more than 100% increments. She shed tears when saying all this.
Madam Esinam who cassava dough told the news team now the cost of number 5 suck of cassava is 200ghs and with processing and everything before bringing it to the market, it will become very expensive which makes people not to buy or feel resistant in buying it. And now one olonka of cassava dough is now expensive.
Madam Akos Nyaglala who sells fish and other ingredients used for cooking told us that, the fishermen increase the price of fresh at the shore due to the increased in the fuel price. According to her, she used to sell one small fish 5ghs but she now sell at 16ghs so that she can also get something small to feed on.
