Results of an Emergency Meeting Between Teacher Unions and Ministry of Employement and Labour Relation (MoELR) and Update on Strike
The selection of Dr. Eric Nkansah as the Director General of the Ghana Education Service prompted teacher unions to call a strike on Friday, November 4, 2022. Today, November 4, 2022, is a strike day for teachers.
According to information obtained by KEKELI NEWS, the meeting on the industrial strike organized by the three teacher unions (GNAT, NAGRAT, CCT-Gh) was resolved as follows
GNAT, NAGRAT, and CCT Gh were present for the meeting, which was place in the MoELR and got underway at 10:50 p.m.
The Deputy and Directors are speaking on behalf of the Minister of Employment and Labor Relations.
Additionally present are the Chief Director and the Deputy Minister of Education.
The gathering was introduced by the Minister of Employment.
Unions made their desires known.
- Dr. Nkansah should leave,
- Anthony Boateng should leave,
- And three others.
- Ready to counter the statements made by the Ministry of Education's spokespeople.
They once more brought up the other items that were of concern, such as
- promotions,
- upgrades,
- vehicle maintenance allowances,
- responsibility allowances, etc.
Rev. Ntim Fordjour, the deputy minister for education, apologized on behalf of the ministry's spokespeople for their comments.
He then begged the unions to call off the strike and let Dr. Nkansah and Boateng attend so that they would act morally the following time.
The unions then requested a break in the proceedings so they could discuss their request with their members.
The meeting will resume on November 7, 2022, at 2:00 pm.
